We have really enjoyed exploring fun destinations in our beautiful state with some of our members over the summer! Below you’ll find details of our mid-September “Drive Yourself” event. We typically look at the forecast for the week and pick the nicest day, then announce our plans to our interested members. Unfortunately, some additional events have been cancelled or postponed due to concerns over the novel coronavirus:

Mid-Late September

We’ll meet at Hunger Mountain Orchard in Waterbury Center to pick apples.
We’ll then visit the Cold Hollow Cider Mill to watch their cider pressing operation and enjoy lunch at the Apple Core Luncheonette (outdoor seating). Since all of their 2020 tour groups have cancelled, they’ll be ready to accommodate us on any given day. We’ll be checking the weather forecast then announce our date and plans.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16th, 2020 at NOON

Let’s enjoy the final days of summer with lunch on our own on the deck at the East Side Restaurant! Catch up with us and your fellow travelers and
enjoy a delicious lunch and beautiful scenery. In case of inclement weather, we’ll be inside on the porch.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 17th, 2020, 10:00 a.m.

 

Bluff Mountain sits at the edge of Island Pond, VT overlooking the lake. The trail starts in a pine plantation and winds its way up Bluff through hardwood dominated forest. Wyatt will share his knowledge of the great outdoors with us on our 3.2 mile roundtrip hike to the summit, with a view of Island Pond, VT from the top. Bring a bag lunch, water, sun screen, and a hat or visor is also recommended.

The cost for this hike is $20.00. Sign up with us by Friday, September 4th.


We’ll meet at the NorthWoods lodge located at 154 Leadership Drive in East Charleston, VT. This is about a 20 minute drive from Derby, VT. Follow route 105 to East Charleston, VT and turn onto the 10 Mile Square Road. Leadership Drive is about two miles from the turn.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 21st, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.

Enhance your Facebook skills with a free expert led class! You’ll leave with a deeper knowledge of hashtags, photo tagging, photo sharing, and an understanding of the settings. For those bringing an iPad or iPhone, be sure to bring your Apple ID and password in order to download the Facebook app if it isn’t already installed on your device. There will also be a question and answer period. We’ll meet in the Community National Bank Training Room in Derby, VT. Enter from Crawford Road for the Training Room Entrance.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29th at 10:00 a.m.

Make, bake and take home your own apple strudel! Inn keeper and renowned chef, Fritz Halbedl, is opening his kitchen to us for a hands-on cooking class on this traditional Viennese strudel. Born and raised in Austria, Chef Fritz cooked his way across Austria, Germany, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia before spending 14 years at Royal Caribbean International as their first senior executive chef of the entire fleet. He’s owned and operated the Derby Line Village Inn with his wife, Paula, since 2014.

This class is limited to ten lucky participants at a cost of $25.00 each.

MONDAY, OCTOBER 5th, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.

Enhance your iPhone® skills with a free expert-led class! You’ll leave with a deeper knowledge of what your smart phone can do for you! There will be plenty of time for questions and answers. We’ll meet in the Community National Bank Training Room. We’ve limited our class size to allow plenty of room for social distancing.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14th, 2020, 1:00 p.m.

Grab your dauber and your mask because you won’t want to miss Community Circle Bingo, where the games and laughter are free! Join Shelly and Julie as they lead the group through 25 games of fun with the chance to take home gift certificates to various restaurants in Orleans and Essex Counties. We will be set up to allow social distancing at the American Legion on Veterans Avenue in Newport, VT.

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 21st, 2020 at 1:00 p.m.

Choose from three classic movies on the Big Screen: Forest Gump; Star Wars – The Empire Strikes Back; and Indiana Jones – The Raiders of the Lost Ark. Enjoy complimentary fountain drinks and fresh, hot movie popcorn!

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23rd, 2020 – Noon - 3:30 p.m.

Jose Duddy, “Award Winning Singer/Entertainer” will join us at the East Side Restaurant. Don’t forget your dancing shoes! Jose will perform from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. The price for this fun-filled afternoon is $47.00 and includes gratuities.

Take out your dancing shoes for some great fun and exercise. Classes will be held at the Derby Line Fire Station on Elm Street in Derby Line, VT so there will be plenty of room for us to spread out! No experience or partner is necessary. The price for all five classes is $35.00, due by Friday, October 23rd.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2nd, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.

Just getting started with your iPad®? This class will help you get comfortable using it. Get the most out of the powerful built-in apps including Calendar, Contacts, Siri, Email, Texting, Facetime, Safari, iBooks and more! Attend our free class and learn some great tips from our local expert and get all your questions answered! Limited class size to allow plenty of room for social distancing.

NOVEMBER 4th - 6th, 2020

Join us for two fun-filled days at Foxwoods with two nights at the beautiful Great Cedar Hotel and Tower. Try your luck at the many casinos, enjoy a variety of restaurants, the spa and pool. Foxwoods is also home to the largest Tanger Outlets all under one roof. Thursday evening, a group of us will try our luck at Bingo. A shuttle will also be available for the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center. Enjoy an immersive, eye-opening journey through time to explore history and today’s vibrant American Indian cultures.

The price for this trip is $326.00 per person double occupancy, $306.00 per person triple occupancy, and $426.00 for a single room. This includes round trip transportation, hotel for two nights, all taxes, luggage handling, driver gratuity, two buffet dinners, two buffet breakfasts, as well as $20.00 slot play.

A $50.00 per person deposit is due at booking with final payment due by Friday, September 18th. We’ll leave the Community National Bank parking lot in Derby, VT at 10:00 a.m., Barton, VT at 10:15 a.m. and St. Johnsbury, VT at 10:45 a.m. We’ll stop in White River Junction, VT for lunch and arrive at Foxwoods by late afternoon. On Friday we will depart for home at 1:00 p.m.

Make and Take a Holiday Centerpiece and Small Swag

We’ve got a local expert donating her time and talent to show us how to create beautiful holiday centerpieces and swags. Join us for a festive afternoon and create something beautiful for your home for the holidays. We’ll supply the containers, greens and bows. Bring your own clippers and any additional decorations you’d like to personalize your pieces with. The cost of this event is $10.00 and will take place in the Training Room at Community National Bank in Derby, VT. Enter from Crawford Road and park by the training room entrance. Seating is limited to allow social distancing.

A Festive Holiday Lunch at the Derby Line Village Inn

Whoever said “there’s no place like home for the holidays,” clearly has never been to the Derby Line Village Inn during the holidays! Decked in all its holiday finery, experience the beauty and charm of the historic 120 year-old inn at Christmas. Inn owners Fritz and Paula Halbedl are creating a very special plated holiday lunch just for us! Come celebrate the season with your Community Circle family. Due to social distancing, seating is limited. The price for this three-course meal is $35.00 all inclusive.

APRIL 29th - MAY 11th, 2021

Shelly and Julie invite you to experience the beauty, the history and the charm of Ireland. Our adventure to Ireland features many must-see inclusions such as the fascinating history of Dublin, Blarney Castle, Killarney and the Ring of Kerry, Killarney National Park, the spectacular 700-foot-high Cliffs of Moher, Giant’s Causeway, the famous walled city of Derry, and Belfast, Northern Ireland. There’s still a lot of uncertainty about new movie release dates. Therefore, please contact the cinemas (or us) a day or two before the regularly scheduled Movie Morning to see if new movies have been released and if our Movie Morning will take place or not.
