On Monday, July 6, 2020, The U.S. Small Business Administration, in consultation with the Treasury Department, announced it was releasing detailed loan-level data related to loans made through the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). For loans made in the amounts of $150,000.00 and over, the data released will include business names, addresses, NAICS codes, zip codes, business types, demographic data, non-profit information, names of lenders, jobs supported and loan amounts categorized in ranges. The data released for all loans made under $150,000.00, will not include business names and addresses.
With this large amount of data being shared publicly, fraudsters may use this opportunity to pose as business owners or lenders to initiate scams. Business owners who participated in the PPP should take extra precautions to safeguard against possible fraud. If you are concerned about suspicious activity, please contact your financial institution immediately.
