Montpelier, VT—State Representative Warren Kitzmiller is getting ready for the 30th annual “Karen Kitzmiller Memorial Winter Coat Drive”. This year Warren is bringing on a new partner, the Montpelier Rotary Club, to assist with the coat drive efforts in Montpelier. In 2008, Community National Bank (CNB) came on as a partner to help broaden the coverage area to include Barre.
In 1990, the late State Representative Karen Kitzmiller of Montpelier started the event in conjunction with her campaign. Karen passed away in 2001 after a courageous battle with breast cancer, but her coat drive has lived on and has proven to be an important service to the community. Warren has continued the coat drive efforts in honor of Karen’s memory to help those in need. Many families and community members struggle with the expense of suiting up for a harsh Vermont winter. For 10 years now, the coat drive has included the collection of quilts, blankets and comforters.
This event has been a huge success, but only through the generosity of community members who are willing to donate. Donations are now being accepted through October 25. Items that are needed include clean, quality winter coats, snowpants, boots, hats, mittens, quilts, comforters and blankets. All sizes for adults and children are being collected. Donations can be made during business hours at CNB’s Montpelier office at 95 State Street and CNB’s Barre office at 316 North Main Street now through Friday, October 25, 2019.
Distribution is taking place Saturday, October 26, 2019, at Montpelier City Hall, 39 Main Street, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and from CNB’s Barre office at 316 North Main Street, from 9:00 a.m. until Noon. All items are given away for free.
Community National Bank, Vermont’s Community Bank, has office locations in Derby, Barre, Barton, Derby Line, Enosburg Falls, Island Pond, Lyndonville, Montpelier, Morrisville, Newport, St. Johnsbury and Troy.
