Community National Bank supports Lucas James Williams Memorial Youth Fund

Bakersfield, VT—On Monday, May 23, 2022, Williams’ pond was stocked with around 1,000 fish donated for the Annual Kids’ Fishing Derby. The fish were donated by Vermont Fish and Wildlife. Every year, children and their families help stock the pond. The 24th Annual Kids’ Fishing Derby is happening on June 11th this year at 3836 E. Bakersfield Road, Bakersfield, VT 05450. This is a free event put on by the Lucas James Williams Memorial Youth Fund (LJWMYF) every year, where all are welcome regardless of where they reside! Children that fish will have the opportunity to win prizes that are donated by local businesses.

Twenty-four years ago, Rosalie Williams started the Lucas James Williams Memorial Youth Fund, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, to honor her son who lost his life while serving our country as a United States Marine. All of the events hosted by LJWMYF have been made possible by committed and hardworking volunteers and generous in-kind donations. In Bakersfield, Vermont, sits the most beautiful pavilion in an open field, where they put on many activities for all of the local children. Lucas loved the outdoors and anything that had to do with being outside. This is why Rosalie and her family have been providing a safe and fun environment for the kids to enjoy. For the last 24 years, Rosalie and her many volunteers have put on classes and activities for local children to attend for free. Some of the programs she offers are hunter safety courses, after school programs, Halloween haunted forests, bonfires, dances, movie nights and fishing derbies, just to name a few.

Rosalie’s commitment to the youth in her community has not gone unnoticed. Many local individuals and businesses including Community National Bank continue to support her ongoing efforts. Over the years she has hosted thousands of kids, and she is now seeing a second generation of families attending. In July 2022, day camp will be offered to six area schools’ after school programs. In August, the LJWMYF is hosting their annual fundraiser. Join them for a pig roast, volleyball tournament, horseshoes, silent auction, live music and much more!
