Wednesday, January 30, 2008 Community Service Award
Barton VT- Cathy Hayes, Community National Bank Barton Office Manager recently had the honor of presenting Nancy Rodgers with Community National Bank’s Community Service Award. This award was developed by the bank in 1996 to recognize the “unsung heroes” that make our communities better places to work and live.
Nancy has been a dedicated volunteer for many years in our community. She currently is the head of Helping Hands and Hearts, a group associated with Saint Paul’s Catholic Church. Nancy is responsible for identifying and communicating with families and individuals in crisis situations and provides them with food, clothing and other needs. During this past holiday season Nancy was made aware of many families that could not afford gifts for their children. With the financial help and the support of individuals this need was met. Nancy’s close connections to her community allow her to help her neighbors in times of need. Nancy played an instrumental role in the Glover Senior Housing building and renovation project. The Glover Senior Housing provides seniors with attractive, comfortable and affordable housing. She also serves as the president of the Barton Area Chamber of Commerce. Each year Nancy, along with the directors’ work on promoting businesses in the area through a website, DVD, and brochure. Two main events: Moon Light Madness and the Village Wide Yard Sale attract visitors to the Barton area and help promote local merchants and the community. She also serves as treasurer of the Glover Trailwinders snowmobile club. Nancy and her husband Jim live in West Glover and have operated a bed and breakfast, Rodgers Country Inn, for the past 28 years, as well as a mail order wreath business. Community National Bank’s Community Service Award honors and recognizes our recipients by making a $500.00 contribution to a local non-profit organization of the recipient’s choice. Nancy has requested that her donation be made to the Helping Hands and Hearts group.
